Your Go to Guide for Wearing Boots
December 31, 2018 Marlena Chesner

Summer fades, but my love of boots never will. Now that the leaves have begun to change, its time to grab your favorites boots out of storage and start styling. If you are wondering which outfits to pair your boots with, stick with me. I’ve created an easy to follow guide to get you started.

Over the Knee Boots

Over the knee boots can be seen all around the world; stomping down runways and red carpets alike. This high impact shoe can add drama and spunk to your outfits- if styled correctly that is.

With Dresses and skirts, you will want a hemline that ends an inch or so above the boot top. This slight break in fabric, between boot and hemline, will add length to your legs. This effect can be amplified by choosing a slightly fitted, straight lined dress or skirt. If you decide to pair the over the knee boot with a miniskirt or shorter dress, consider adding a longer sheer cardigan or shrug to help balance the look.

Don’t be afraid to wear these boots overtop a pair of pants. Just make sure you choose a slim, fitted pair that will tuck into your shoes without creating bumps of smushed fabric. A fitted or tucked in the top will enforce your figure even with a jacket or cardigan over top. If you prefer longer shirts, dress according to the weather: If it’s chilly, go for long sleeves so you don’t have to wear a jacket, as it will add bulk to your outfit. Warmer weather calls for loose, tunic shirts.

Try this look yourself with this bronzed foil skinny pant that is totally on trend this season. The metallic shine of this pant would hold up to your favorite pair of black over the knee boots.

Knee High

You may be tempted pair your knee-high boots with your favorite knee-length skirt or dress, but save those looks for your ankle bootie. Instead, stick to slim fitted jeans, colorful leggings, or mid-thigh dresses. Try a longer, patterned tunic top with a pair of long leggings: Go bold with a color block boot that matches the detail of your top. If you’re looking for sleek and classy, pair your boots with a shorter sweater dress with bell sleeves.

Ankle Bootie

From chic colors and fabrics to rustic accents and durability, ankle booties can come in every shape and size and match just about everything. There is just one hard and fast rule for the ankle bootie: Don’t try to tuck your pants in (You can cheat by tucking in your leggings)- no matter how cold your ankles get! There is not enough space to create a smooth, straight line on the pant with the ankle boot and you definitely don’t want baggy ankles. The rest is up to you!

The ankle boot looks fabulous with a fitted pant, leggings, and skirts with above-the-ankle, knee, or mid-thigh hemline. These lengths will keep you elongated, while mid-calf and below-the-knee will shorten you. Accessorize with cuffed socks or some funky tights.

If you’re looking for inspiration, try this funky brown geometric satin dress. It’s cinched sleeves and metallic sheen match this seasons biggest trends and will look divine with these soft rubber and leather ankle boots. Accessorize with rich, gold rings and this metallic.

Hopefully, I have provided you a helpful blueprint for wearing boots. Following these tips should make you more confident in your styling choices and (ideally) inspire you to create looks that are wholly you.
